Huu-ay-aht First Nations to hold referendum vote on the proposed Sarita LNG Project

The Huu-ay-aht First Nations is engaging with Huu-ay-aht citizens on Steelhead LNG’s proposed Sarita LNG Project and will hold a referendum vote on March 25, 2017. The Sarita LNG Project is a proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility located on Huu-ay-aht First Nations-owned lands at Sarita Bay, about 10 kilometres north of Bamfield, and roughly 70 kilometres southwest of Port Alberni. The facility concept is in the preliminary engineering and conceptual design stage.

“This engagement represents a positive step forward for our proposed Sarita LNG Project and is informed by extensive discussions with the Huu-ay-aht First Nations,” said Nigel Kuzemko, CEO of Steelhead LNG. “We respect Huu-ay-aht’s referendum process and value the opportunity to continue to explore this LNG opportunity with the Huu-ay-aht First Nations.” Continue reading
