Oil prices will rise again. Today’s spending cuts will sow the seeds of tomorrow’s rebound. But until then, it’s time to batten down the hatches and focus on the Oilers’ playoff hopes (small joke).

On the flip side, the mood in British Columbia has perked up of late as layoffs in Wild Rose Country prompt workers to head west of the Rockies, reversing years of migration eastward.

Of course, B.C.’s natural gas industry is also struggling due to low prices. And Premier Christy Clark’s dream of transforming B.C. into a major liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter has yet to materialize.
